The Creative Archive

Find it. Rip it. Mix it. Share it. Come and Get it.

"The Creative Archive is a BBC led initiative to provide access to public service audio and video archives in a way that allows the British public to find, share, watch, listen and re-use the archive as a fuel for their own creative endeavours. In other words, you can rip, mix and share the BBC." From "What is the Creative Archive".

Also "The British Broadcasting Corporation recently unveiled a license that will allow the public to access free television footage, films and sounds from some of the largest media archives in the United Kingdom." Full article on Wired.

Dream on

Not so much a mash-up but a remix I have made of Dream On by Depeche Mode, using Acid Pro and samples from tracks by the Beastie Boys:

Depeche Mode - Dream On (The Placebo Oracle Beastly Remix)

BTW: this guy has many mash-ups available.

MP34U

"The graphics and layout scared me away at first, but MP34U is actually a fun site that's based around a great idea. Music fans sign up to become "sources," and then post links to their favorite free, legal downloads, along with brief comments. You can browse through the songs that have been posted by genre or by date, or you can just learn which sources you trust and stick to their offerings (glancing over what's been posted recently, I like the looks of skyler and alien protocol). Three or four songs are posted most days, and the site has been around for more than four years, so there's a large library of free songs to dig through. It's a nice resource, a communal pool of free, legal downloads, and although MP34U remains relatively modest in size, the basic model is a winner". From Salon.com

How to Explain DRM to Your Dad

My friend John was trying to think of a way to explain the problem with digital rights management to his dad and friend of ours who don't see what's wrong with it. He compiled a list of examples of DRM-related problems to help people understand what the big deal is with DRM. Full list at WIRED Blogs: Listening Post

See also a video of cut chemist. Another great turntablist. See him in action with DJ Shadow.

A demo of the TB303 analog synth, and with overdrive.

I also played The Poke by Adonis and the Endless Poker. Finally, I also played a very recent acid track by gothrobot: rock 2017"---see below.

Finally, here is a free TB-303 synth emulator. You can also check the history of TB-303 and the Minimoog. The synth I used in class: FLStudio
